This standard details the specific qualifications the practitioner holds that proves they have the skills and knowledge to practise medicine in their profession. The practitioner’s specialties and sub-specialties are also listed, together with a list of procedures/treatments undertaken and details of their clinical interests.
Specialty training is particularly relevant to doctors and is undertaken after completion of the initial Foundation Programme. It is at this stage that doctors decide the particular area of medical expertise they will pursue during their career. Depending on the specialty, this further training will take between 3-8 years and, following completion, the doctor can become a consultant. Some specialties give opportunities to further sub-specialise into areas of particular interest to the doctor.
For practitioners who are registered with the General Medical Council (GMC), this information (apart from Procedures/Treatments) is automatically captured via a feed received, Monday to Friday (apart from Bank Holidays), from the List of Registered Medical Practitioners using Healthcode's republishing licence, details of which can be viewed on the GMC Information page.
